Happy Halloween! PSC Wallpaper for You!

Happy Halloween!  Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday.  To commemorate the celebrations this year, I have created a downloadable screen saver/wallpaper of the characters (dressed up, of course) in my brand new comic multimedia project, Polydactyl Super Cat.

Next Thursday, the first comic of the series will be posted!  If you would like to be notified by email when new comics are posted, you can subscribe below.  This list is different than the regular Kara Square newsletter.  The PSC list is an automatically generated email with a link to the new posts (basically, an emailed RSS feed).

New Project Announcement / Introduction: Polydactyl Super Cat Comic and Album!

Hello! I’ve toyed with the idea of writing an album comprised of ukulele cat songs for a long time now. I kept thinking that it needed a visual component, but I didn’t know what kind. So I brainstormed…

Push play to hear the Polydactyl Super Cat Theme Song while you read.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a cartoonist when I grew up. My favorite was Calvin and Hobbes, but I also read all of the Sunday newspaper comics. Somehow, I got into music and focused on that instead of art. Well, I’ve always sketched little, often just silly things over the years.

I’ve read tons of comics and graphic novels throughout my adulthood. I devour them. I feel empty when I don’t have one on hand to read (no kidding). My favorite cartoonist and biggest inspiration is Jeffrey Brown. Everything by him is completely awesome (and smart!). Alison Bechdel (author of Dykes to Watch Out For and Fun Home) is a huge idol of mine. Nicole J. Georges and Julia Wertz are more fav cartoonists I follow. I enjoy many mainstream series, too: Fables, The Unwritten, The Walking Dead…

I’ve become a big fan of webcomics over the last few years. I read Jeph Jacques' Questionable Content daily. Cats VS Humans by Yasmine Surovec has me completely hooked. I recently found out about Megan Rose Gedris and read her webcomic YU+ME in record speed (according to me, anyway).

And so, I asked myself a big question: Can I write a comic?

I answered myself like this: I do not know.

So I started sketching and writing and writing and sketching; and I think I may have come up with something pretty fun. In 2011, I made a music video that people seemed to like pretty well. It was called “Polydactyl Super Cat.” I decided to expand upon this idea. Soooo… I revamped the theme song into a ukulele rock ditty (heard above if you pushed play).

And soooo… the new project is a multi-media type of thing. I’ll write cat songs and draw cat comics that relate to them (or the other way around). I’ll post them as I go. At this point, I will not have a set schedule. When I’ve got a nice slew of comics and songs, I’ll release an album with a nicely printed comic to accompany it. :D  Yeah??  Yeah!

Next week, I’ll have a fun Halloween drawing of the comic's characters to share with you. On November 7th, I’ll post the first comic. I really hope you like this project… If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to let me know in the comments.

Take care and cause ruckus,

Kara Square
